Technology Playground
The Technology Playground is held at the annual CEC convention and is sponsored by ISET and CEC. It is located in the Exhibit Hall throughout the convention and is an immersive, hands-on experience where attendees can interact with vendors and educators who will share current assistive and instructional technologies that support students with special needs. The following activities take place in the Technology Playground.
1. Tech in Action
A place where attendees can experience different types of technology and sponsored by a university or state/local AT program throughout the convention.
2. Make n' Takes: Low-Tech Projects
Attendees will be able to make a low-tech project and take it with them. These one-hour sessions will be offered at specific times in the Tech Playground and provided by selected presenters. This is a first-come, first-serve experience with materials for 12 participants.
3. Tech Blitz: Technology Tools for Your Classroom
The Technology Blitzes explore how to use specific technologies within the educational setting. These 15-minute blitzes will focus on technology tools and tips that can be implemented in classrooms tomorrow. These are short presentations with step-by-step explanations and experiences where attendees will learn examples of how technology is implemented.
4. Makerspace
Makerspace provides an opportunity for attendees to have a hands-on experience with creating low-tech or no-tech tools that will enhance accessibility for students with disabilities. Using readily available materials, attendees will create a simple project that can be used to support students. Materials and directions are provided and attendees will walk away with new tools to use in their educational setting.
5. Innovation Showcase
Technology vendors present with an educator and their student(s) using the product and participate in a 30-minute presentation in the Tech Playground. This allows the vendor to share their product and the users to discuss implementation and benefits. Breakfast, lunch or a snack are provided for a limited number of attendees.
